Kitchen Remodel & Wall Opening
In this recent kitchen remodel and wall opening, Aptitude Design & Build collaborated with a client who wanted to modernize their kitchen, improve functionality, and create a more open-concept flow into the family room. The family sought better storage solutions, updated finishes, and enhanced lighting.
The renovation addressed several issues, including inefficient use of space, poor lighting, and a closed-off layout that made the area feel smaller and disconnected from the rest of the home. A significant challenge was removing a load-bearing wall, which required careful planning to ensure safety and stability due to the changes in load from the second floor above. Additionally, the layout necessitated relocating windows based on the new cabinet arrangement.
Aptitude’s design process included the following steps:
1. Designing the layout, including the wall removal and window relocation.
2. Conducting structural work to safely open up the wall between the kitchen and family room.
3. Installing new cabinetry, countertops, backsplashes, and appliances.
4. Completing finishing details such as trim work, lighting, and final styling.
Aptitude’s experienced team successfully navigated the structural challenges that arose during the wall modification and managed to work around existing plumbing and electrical systems that needed relocation.
Some of Aptitude’s favorite aspects of this project included the custom fireplace mantel built on-site, the thoughtfully designed backsplash that compliments the overall space, and the smart lighting integrated into the home’s smart system.
As you can see in these images, the kitchen remodel really opens up and enhances the home’s flow, showcasing a sleek kitchen design, the beautiful fireplace mantel, and the remarkable transformation from before to after.
